Mother’s Day 2030 in the United States

When is Mother’s Day 2030?

1356 days away

Mother’s Day 2030 falls on Sunday, May 12, 2030. It is 1356 days away.

Mother’s Day in the United States falls on the second Sunday in May. It is a civic observance, not a federal public holiday: federal offices, banks and the mail typically operate a normal Monday-to-Friday schedule around it.

Anna Jarvis pushed for a national day to honor mothers; Congress made it official in 1914. Most people mark it with a phone call, brunch, or flowers — a Sunday so you rarely need time off work.

What typically stops

National picture for four named services. A local branch, a retailer or a private employer can still differ — this is not a store-by-store matrix.

Whether banks, USPS, Fedwire and the NYSE typically close for Mother’s Day
Service Typically Source
Banks (Federal Reserve) Open — Typically a normal banking day. Not a Federal Reserve holiday. Federal Reserve Banks — Holiday Schedule (K.8)
USPS Open — Typically regular delivery and retail hours. USPS Employee and Labor Relations Manual — Holiday Leave (518)
Fedwire Open — Typically operates. Not a Federal Reserve holiday. Federal Reserve Banks — Holiday Schedule (K.8)
NYSE Open — Typically a full trading session. NYSE — Trading Hours and Holiday Calendar

Is Mother’s Day a public holiday?

No. Mother’s Day is not one of the eleven legal public holidays in 5 U.S.C. § 6103. Federal offices stay open on the surrounding weekdays, and there is no observed-date shift because the day is already a Sunday.

Some private employers treat the weekend as a busy retail period rather than a closure. Whether any given shop is open is a local decision and is not published here.

What day is Mother’s Day?

The United States observes Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May, so the calendar date moves between May 8 and May 14.

The date was set by presidential proclamation after Anna Jarvis’s campaign, and Congress recognized the day in 1914. The weekday rule has not changed.

How it differs from a federal holiday

A federal holiday closes Federal Reserve Banks, USPS regular mail and, on most such days, the NYSE. Mother’s Day does none of those things. The useful fact on this page is the date, not a closure.
